Dario Garegnani è un direttore d’orchestra e musicologo italiano attivo a livello internazionale, con un particolare focus sulla musica del Novecento e sulla sperimentazione teatrale. Diplomato in clarinetto presso il Conservatorio “G. Verdi” di Milano, si è perfezionato in direzione d’orchestra con Sandro Gorli, Benjamin Zander, Janos Fürst ed Erwin Acel, partecipando a corsi e masterclass tra Londra, Vienna e San Pietroburgo. Ha conseguito con lode le lauree in Scienze dei Beni Culturali e in Musicologia all’Università degli Studi di Milano, con tesi dedicate a Jacques Offenbach e alla tecnica del coro parlato nella musica del XX secolo.
Ha collaborato come assistente di Mauricio Kagel alla Biennale Musica di Venezia e al Kagel Festival di Buenos Aires. Nel 2010 è stato finalista per il ruolo di assistant conductor presso l’Ensemble InterContemporain, diretto da Pierre Boulez. È stato ospite di istituzioni musicali e festival in tutta Europa, tra cui Festival MITO, Milano Musica, Società del Quartetto, Biennale Musica, Rai 5, Teatro La Fenice, LAC Lugano, Ars Electronica di Linz, I Teatri di Reggio Emilia, Teatro Comunale di Bologna e Piccolo Teatro di Milano.
A livello internazionale, ha diretto e curato progetti in Germania, Austria, Svizzera, Francia, Belgio, Iran, Argentina, collaborando con ensemble, accademie e teatri tra cui Music Festival, Fadjr Festival di Teheran, Centro Nacional de la Música di Buenos Airese molti altri.. Ha lavorato su nuove produzioni d’opera e teatro musicale in lingua tedesca, francese e inglese, con particolare attenzione alla multidisciplinarietà.
Con l’ensemble Secret Theater, di cui è stato co-fondatore, ha proposto programmi dedicati al teatro musicale del primo Novecento, tra cui le prime esecuzioni italiane di Pierrot Lunaire e Kammersymphonie di Schönberg, acclamate in tour internazionali. Recentemente ha diretto opere di Donatoni e Pergolesi in nuove produzioni trasmesse su OperaVision, e ha guidato MDI Ensemble nella finale del Premio Nazionale delle Arti promosso dal Ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca.
Collabora stabilmente con Dahu Project, di cui è membro fondatore, alla realizzazione di SILENT, performance su partitura di Gabriele Marangoni costruita attorno a performer sordi.
Ha pubblicato diverse registrazioni, tra cui Chamber Music (2008, F. Delli Pizzi), Musica Ciclica (2013, G. Albini) e Mahler – Symphony No. 4 nella versione cameristica di Klaus Simon (Da Vinci Classics, 2023). Affianca alla direzione l’attività di regista, light designer e docente, con un forte impegno verso la formazione musicale e l’innovazione artistica.
Dal 2014 insegna materie teoriche, clarinetto e sassofono presso l’Istituto Musicale Rusconi, per il quale cura, dal 2020, anche progetti innovativi di alfabetizzazione musicale online.
